Going ‘Rogue’ in Newport, Oregon

Rogue has become a brewery powerhouse over the years – known for their quirky names, delicious beer and inventive concoctions. The trip to the Oregon Coast is a beautiful, scenic – and beer drinking sight, worthy of a getaway weekend.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale is probably lined in your grocery store, but I’m here to tell you that heading out to the Oregon Coast to see this place for yourself is definitely worth going “Rogue” for.

One of my favorite spots when it comes to Oregon beer is Rogue Ale & Spirits, regardless of the fact that it’s home location in Newport, Oregon happens to be where my husband grew up. And it just happens to gives us more opportunity to stop by when we are at home visiting the in-laws.

But despite it’s powerhouse status, it’s flagship brewery in Newport allows for one of the great advantages to being such a large joint – they have a lot of beer. Not only do they have a lot of beer, but they have a lot of good beer. I mean, look at this tap goodness below – don’t tell me you wouldn’t tap that in all it’s glory?!

Rogue Creativity

Rogue has become a brewery powerhouse over the years – known for their quirky names, delicious beer and inventive concoctions. Opening it’s first Brew Pub in 1989, they have really defined a lot for the craft beer revolution and can be seen as one of the beacons of light for the rise of good beer. But to our delight, there is no shortage of delicious experiments. From the bubblegum pink bottle of “Voodoo Donut Bacon Maple Ale” to the “Beard Beer” made with the actual yeast of their brewers beard, there are plenty of things to try for yourself. (They do take their beard’s seriously, though, let me tell you. I mean – this beard that brews beers (say that 10 times fast) has it’s own blog.

There are two locations in Newport – Brewer’s on the Bay being the flagship location where you can see their full operations, take a tour, participate in monthly events and drink in a laid-back atmosphere to your sudsy content. They have also recently opened the Rogue House of Spirits in the same bay area where you can check out their distillery pub if you want to take a beer break.

Or if you just need a pint and nothing fancy – head to the Newport Bayfront to Rogue Ales Public House while perusing all of Newport’s tourist attractions like the Oregon Coast Aquarium or the strange Ripleys Believe it or Not!

Bonus: Become a part of Rogue Nation

One thing that I think is super cool that this brewery has done with it’s brand, is their efforts to engage with their beer fans on a large scale. Enter: Rogue Nation. You can apply to be a part of Rogue Nation that allows you to be a card-carrying member to show your loyalties and get cool stuff throughout the year. You also receive updates to their beers and brew-ha-ha-happenings, and own yourself in the beer community. And what is beer, without community?

Whether purchasing from a local, neighborhood grocery store in the Northwest or making the trek to the Oregon Coast, Rogue is a favorite not to be missed.

A grocery store staple and an even better brewery experience, Rogue Ale & Spirits produces quality beer that you can count on. Taste buds beware on the "specialty" beers however - there is a strong love-hate relationship that will either having you love the beer - or hate it.
